The club held it’s Christmas party, as usual, at the club meeting room at St Margarets. Just under 40 people attended and - as has now become tradition - the meal was cooked by Joanne Galston.... And what a superb meal it was! As has also become tradition, everyone helped out on the day in some capacity or other, be it as washer-uppers, waiters/waitresses, tea/coffee dispensers.
Members arriving for the meal were greeted with the customary superb table layout.... all
done by Margot McDonald - complete with party hats and crackers! The numerous trophies we have won this year found new uses, spread around the tables as chocolate holders! The menu was magnificent, with a main course of turkey and stuffing, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, sprouts and gallons of gravy. Soft drinks and orange juice were freely available and those who had brought their own drinks (or won raffle prizes!) were able to enjoy a glass of something slightly stronger. This was followed by a choice of desserts, including Christmas pudding with custard and a superb trifle (with the option of sherry or non-sherry) made by Peter Aldington... and those who played their cards correctly got some of both!
The desserts were followed by tea and coffee served with mint chocolates, mince pies and Satsumas, along with Christmas cake for any0ne who wanted it..... all unfortunately followed by a period of washing up, in which members took “shifts” to clear up and put away the pots.
Our sincere thanks go to both Joanne Galston and Margot McDonald for their tremendous efforts in making the whole party possible. We’re looking forward to next year’s already!
My personal thanks go to all those who came along and took part. The atmosphere was fantastic and I for one really enjoyed the chance to just chat and lark about in good company. As ever, it was also great to see everyone offer to help out and make the evening what it was.
